Crisis Peer Counselor/YOUTH SUPPORT PARTNER – CYFCT- South Team

PEER COUNSELOR – Full time 40 hours/week (10-hour shifts)

Compass Health is currently looking for a Youth Support Partner / Peer Counselor to join the Child, Youth & Family Crisis Team!

Summary

The Peer Counselor / Youth Support Partner provides peer support services to clients under the supervision of the Program Manager. These services include assistance with stabilization, self-advocacy, development of natural supports, and the development of community living skills.

Who you’ll be working with:

The Child, Youth & Family Crisis Team (CYFCT) is a community-based outreach team with the ability to respond to and provide crisis services in the community (e.g., homes, schools, shelters). The Team serves children, youth, adolescents, and their caregivers who are experiencing a behavioral health (mental health and/or substance use) crisis regardless of their funding source. CYFCT offers short term crisis intervention and prevention services utilizing strength-based, solution-focused, culturally competent, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented interventions.

What you will be performing

This position will provide peer support services to clients under the supervision of the Program Manager. These services include assistance with stabilization, recovery, self-advocacy, development of natural supports, and the development and maintenance of community living skills.

  • Provides peer support to validate clients’ experience and to provide guidance and encouragement to clients to take responsibility and actively participate in their own recovery.
  • Serves as a mentor to clients to promote hope and empowerment.
  • Assists individuals in identifying and accessing community and natural supports, including Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Treatment, peer support groups, and avenues to meet basic needs.
  • Provides reassurance and support to the family/friends/natural supports of the client.
  • Engages in active listening with clients.
  • Assists other program staff in monitoring clients’ symptoms and behavior, and in formulating treatment goals within the team process in which each client’s point of view and preferences are recognized and respected.
  • Advocates for the participant as deemed appropriate.

What you will be sharing

  • Current Peer Counselor Certification preferred.
  • Experience as a Peer Counselor preferred.
  • Experience with a special needs child who has been a recipient of community services, either as a caregiver or via personal experience required or, lived experience with a behavioral health or substance use diagnosis required.
  • Individuals who do not already hold a license or associate license through the Washington State Department of Health must submit Agency Affiliated Counselor application upon hire and be approved by the DOH.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License including vehicle and appropriate insurance, if applicable.
